ISLAMABAD: Mehr Bukhari, the television talk show host at the center of a scandal that rocked Pakistan media last year, is to join DawnNews.
Insiders tell JournalismPakistan.com she has been hired on a monthly salary reported to be Rs1.8 million.
She has been away from the television screen for several months and was previously with Dunya News Television where a leaked video of a program she hosted along with Mubashar Luqman last summer showed behind the scene conversation with their guest, property tycoon Malik Riaz.
The clip first posted on YouTube revealed the interview with Malik was set-up as Meher admitted herself during the conversation that took place before the program and during commercial breaks.
The video that went viral created a rumble within the media fraternity leaving the role and ethics of television anchors open to question.
Mehr has also worked for Samaa Television. Her husband Kashif Abbasi, is also a television anchor, associated with ARY Television.
