PTV World launch on January 29

ISLAMABAD: The state-run English-language Pakistan Television World is set to be launched on January 29.

President Asif Ali Zardari will inaugurate the new channel that will air news, current affairs and entertainment programs.

The PTV managers had been aiming for a launch earlier in the month. However, a political long march on Islamabad reportedly delayed those plans.

Some people doubt the channel will be a success considering the demise of two English-language channels. But PTV Managing Director Yousuf Baig Mirza sees it as a challenge.

“It is a difficult initiative and we are aware it won’t be commercially viable, given that two private English channels closed down. This is a challenge in itself,” he said in Karachi last month.

DawnNews switched its medium of language from English to Urdu while Express 24/7 shut down completely because of low viewership and poor revenues.
