KARACHI: Abb Takk Television's Larkana correspondent Shan Dhar was shot dead Wednesday at the start of the New Year.
Dhar, 40, was shot, reportedly in the neck as he headed home from work.
Reports said he was attacked and injured in his native town Badah after having done his day's work for the channel. He later died at the Chandika Medical Hospital, Larkana.
He leaves behind two daughters aged eight and six. Police have started investigations but no arrests were made.
Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has directed Deputy Inspector General Larkana to submit a report within three days.
Nasir Baig Chughtai, Director News and Current Affairs at Abb Takk was quoted as saying Dhar's murder was a big loss for journalism.
Journalists in Larkana, condemning Dhar's killing have demanded an immediate probe.
Dhar started his journalistic career from Karachi, where he worked with Urdu and Sindhi electronic and print media. He was associated with Awami Awaz, Indus News, ARY One World, Dharti TV and Mehran TV.
After working 18 years in Karachi, he moved to Larkana, his native district where he joined Abb Takk TV as a reporter.
Due to his fearless reporting he had been receiving threats from criminal gangs in Badah, a town 35 kilometers from Larkana city.
According to Dhar's friend, his last report was on fake medicines being sold in stores in Badah. During preparation of this report, he was threatened by the owner of medial store allegedly involved in selling expired and fake medicines.
