In a joint statement, PFUJ President Afzal Butt and Secretary General Arshad Ansari expressed deep concern over the visit, emphasizing that it defies Pakistan’s official policy of non-recognition of Israel and contradicts the government’s ban on such trips. The union highlighted that despite these restrictions, certain prominent media figures undertook the journey, raising critical questions about their motives and affiliations.
PFUJ has called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the matter, urging the authorities to probe the circumstances surrounding the visit—how and why these journalists traveled to Israel. The statement stressed that such actions are in direct conflict with Pakistan’s long-standing diplomatic stance and could have profound implications for journalistic integrity.
Furthermore, the PFUJ underscored the risks journalists worldwide take in war zones to expose human rights violations, condemning the visit as an insult to those who have sacrificed their lives in the pursuit of truth.
The statement also pointed out that Israel has killed over 150 journalists and media workers, making it one of the most dangerous places for press freedom globally. PFUJ reaffirmed its commitment to upholding ethical journalism and supporting those who strive for truth and justice in reporting.
