ISLAMABAD – The Sindh High Court Wednesday suspended a PEMRA ban on BOL News program Aisay Nahi Chalay Ga which is hosted by Aamir Liaquat Hussain until February 22.
The court directed the regulator and other defendants to submit their responses at the next hearing.
Meanwhile the program resumed on Wednesday after the court granted stay.
The controversial program and its host were banned on January 26 for spreading hate and inciting violence. However, the Sindh High Court overturned that ban the following day.
PEMRA later issued a show cause notice to BOL for defying the ban slapped on Aamir Liaquat and his program.
The notice said: “….BOL News in blatant and deliberate violation….not only telecast program Aisay Nahi Chalay Ga but also the host Dr. Aamir Liaquat appeared on BOL News at 22:45 on January 26, 2017. Later the program was re-telecast by the TV management again in violation of the PEMRA orders.”
PEMRA filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the decision of the Sindh High Court.
On Wednesday, a three-member bench headed by Justice Amir Hani Muslim and comprising Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel ordered that BOL News management must respond in writing to a PEMRA show cause notice.
The court said BOL managers should appear before PEMRA to argue their case and let the regulator decide appropriate action.
The Supreme Court clarified that BOL could appeal against PEMRA’s decision before a high court if it felt aggrieved by the regulator’s decision.
Meanwhile Faysal Aziz Khan, Chief News Officer at BOL told JournalismPakistan.com the channel never went against the law and would never do that. "We are working according to the constitution of Pakistan and we respect the courts."
