MUMBAI: A 14-member media delegation from Pakistan was accorded a traditional welcome as they arrived here on a week-long study trip.
They were welcomed at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport by members of the Mumbai Press Club.
The delegation leader and president of Karachi Press Club, Tahir Hasan Khan said: "We are extremely happy to be in India. I am sure this joint endeavor by Karachi and Mumbai Press Clubs would further improve relations between India and Pakistan and also strengthen people-to-people contact.”
The party comprises journalists representing leading media houses including Dawn, The News, Geo TV, ARY News and Express News.
According to PTI news agency the purpose of the visit is to promote a philosophy of understanding and tolerance between the two countries by increasing and improving the quality of media content when reporting on bilateral issues.
“This is expected to boost the peace process between the two countries," Gurbir Singh, president of the Mumbai Press Club said.
A similar delegation from India had visited Pakistan last November which was hosted by the Karachi Press Club and the Pakistan Institute of Labor Education and Research.
The Pakistani delegation is also scheduled to meet Maharashtra Chief Minister PrithvirajChavan and State Home Minister R RPatil besides visiting some newspaper and television offices.
On May 26, the Pakistanis would travel to Pune where they would visit a media house besides attending events hosted by Sarhad, a prominent NGO working for Indo-Pak peace.
