January 17, 2015: AFP photographer Asif Hassan was shot while covering an anti-Charlie Hebdo protest in Karachi. Recovering in hospital, Hassan's incident highlights the risks faced by journalists in Pakistan, the deadliest country for the profession in 2014.
January 16, 2015: AFP photographer Asif Hassan and Capital TV cameraman Adeel were injured during a protest near the French Consulate in Karachi. Demonstrations against Charlie Hebdo led to clashes and police firing. Both journalists are now in stable condition.
December 22, 2014: Zeeshan Shamsi, a reporter with NewsOne Television, was attacked by unidentified assailants in Sialkot. While Shamsi remained unhurt, his wife Saima Zeeshan sustained serious injuries and was in critical condition at Combined Military Hospital Sialkot.
December 12, 2014: PTI supporters harassed two female Geo News reporters during a protest in Karachi. Stones and bottles were thrown at the channel's DSNG van, and party workers surrounded and verbally abused the journalists.
November 30, 2014: Staff from DawnNews and Dunya Television were injured following a cracker attack on their DSNG vans near Faizabad after covering a PTI gathering. The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and civil society condemned the attack and demanded immediate action from the government.
September 14, 2014: Samaa Television cameraman, Muhammad Tariq, was assaulted by PTI activists while covering their protest at D-Square. The attack prompted immediate condemnation from PTI chief Imran Khan, who denounced the violence and praised the media's coverage of earlier events.
September 14, 2014: Protesters reportedly affiliated with Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) attacked the Geo TV offices in Islamabad, causing significant damage to the building. The attackers hurled stones, shattering windows and terrifying the staff inside. This incident marks the fourth major assault on Geo since the PTI and PAT sit-in began near their offices.
September 08, 2014: Protesters reportedly belonging to PTI and PAT launched another assault on Geo Television offices near the Red Zone. Stones were hurled, damaging the all-glass building. Despite repeated attacks, law enforcement did not protect the journalists inside.
August 31, 2014: The Islamabad offices of Geo News were targeted in an early morning attack by workers affiliated with Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT). The incident, resulted in significant damage to the building and a DSNG van.
August 31, 2014: In Islamabad, several media teams face brutal attacks by Punjab Police following clashes between Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek workers and law enforcement on Constitution Avenue. Cameramen from Samaa TV, Dunya News, and DawnNews Television, along with others from ARY, KTN, and NewsOne, were injured and had equipment damaged during the violence.
July 14, 2014: A crew from the Asian TV Press Network, a private broadcasting news agency, faces a violent attack by workers of the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Project. The incident occurred at D-Chowk, Islamabad, where cameraman Bilal Khan and producer Zahid Ali were filming construction activities related to the project.
July 10, 2014: Prominent Pakistani journalist Hamid Mir, in London for medical treatment, reveals in an interview with BBC World Service Radio that he continues to receive threats warning him not to resume his television program.
June 01, 2014: Zafar Aheer, the resident editor of daily Jang in Multan, was brutally attacked and injured by unidentified men wearing masks. The incident occurred as he was returning home from work on Saturday, with the assailants intercepting his car near his residence.
April 21, 2014: Abdul Ghani Kakar, a correspondent for Deutsche Welle in Quetta, survives a murder attempt when armed men chased and rammed their vehicle into his car on Zargoon Road. Kakar managed to escape to safety on Makran Road in Satellite Town, where two passersby were injured in the incident. He had been receiving threatening phone calls.
April 16, 2014: Ansar Abbasi, a journalist with The News, receives a new threat via email from the sender known as Khaki Power, warning him not to cross unspecified "red lines." This incident follows a similar warning to an unnamed columnist. Both threats have been reported to the Federal Investigation Agency, which faces challenges tracing the sender's US-registered IP address.
April 14, 2014: Ahmad Noorani, a journalist with The News based in Islamabad, reports threats directed at him through phone calls and social media allegedly from retired Brigadier Tarik Niazi. The Federal Investigation Agency is notified about the abusive messages and threats sent via Twitter and Facebook.
April 13, 2014: Ansar Abbasi, the editor of investigations at The News, receives a threatening email from an entity identifying as Khaki Power, cautioning him to behave and reconsider his writings. The email, warned of potential consequences for his career if he continued to criticize prominent figures like Gen Raheel Sharif and Gen (Retd) Pervez Musharraf.
April 05, 2014: Journalists and representatives of media associations and unions express deep concern over the death threats directed at Imtiaz Alam, the editor of South Asian Journal. In a joint statement, they condemn the growing intolerance towards diverse viewpoints, which they argued undermines media freedom and the practice of quality journalism.
March 28, 2014: Express News anchor Raza Rumi survives a gun attack in which his driver is killed and a guard injured. The attack occurred near Raja Market on Ferozpur Road. Rumi, who had not received direct threats, was reportedly on the hit list of extremist organizations.
March 26, 2014: Armed assailants attack The News correspondent Irfan Burki, his son Tanvir Burki, and cameraman Shahid in Tank, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The attack, involving seven men with guns and sticks, resulted in serious injuries.
